Welcome to the Central Alabama Mensa website

Central Alabama Mensa is a chapter of American Mensa, Ltd. Mensa is an international society of those who score at or above the 98th percentile on any one of a number of standardized tests. Mensa has over 100,000 members worldwide and chapters in more than 40 different countries.

The purposes of Mensa are: 1) identify and foster human intelligence for the benefit of humanity; 2) encourage research on the nature, characteristics and uses of intelligence; and 3) provide a stimulating intellectual and social environment for its members.

No two Mensans think alike, but they do think a lot! In their opinions they run the gamut of the entire political and philosophical spectra. They have a wide variety of interests, as evidenced by the number and variety of Special Interest Groups (SIGS) there are in Mensa.

Mensa does not have any official opinions or stands on any political, religious, philosophical or social issue. Any opinions expressed on this website are those of the individual writer, and do not reflect the opinion of Mensa or of Central Alabama Mensa as a whole.

At last count CAM had approximately 250 members. Birmingham is the heart of CAM, since it is the largest city in central Alabama (in fact, in the entire state) and thus where the majority of our social functions take place. Our membership area includes the cities of Anniston, Oxford and Tuscaloosa as well as Birmingham and its environs.

CAM offers a variety of activities each month, ranging from restaurant and bar functions, to hikes and jazz events. Annually, CAM hosts a Regional Gathering and awards two scholarships to students living in our geographic area.
